An exhibition of Zofia Ridet photography

One of the most prominent personalities of Polish photography, Ridet draws inspiration on reportage, fashion, portrait and macrophotography. Through photography she tries to put together a portrait of society and that of the rustic society in particular.
She is the author of some significant photo cycles. Since 1978 and practically to the end of her life she fulfills her most important artistic mission – the Sociological Notes cycle, monumentally documenting society in some tens of hundreds of negatives. The cycle involves photos of people who allowed the author to their homes and agreed to have their photos taken in the premises where they carried out their daily routine. Zofia Ridet managed to recognize the worth of the daily chores and the characters of her photos – common people, rise to the rank of central image, creators of a world of their own.
The last important cycle is the Silesian Suite, shot at the end of the 80s and the beginning of the 90s which includes collages and photo edited images referring to self-quotation of her own earlier works.
Her works can be seen in the biggest Polish museums and are possession of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York, George Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, Bradford, England.
