Black and white portraits

I have always been fascinated by portraits. These portraits – about 40 of them, were shot in the course of the past 25 years in various parts of Bulgaria which I have visited. Most of them are digital images.
All these people have been in particular interest to me. I have known some of them for a long time, others I meet on almost daily basis. Each of them has his/her own story imprinted on their faces. I have always tried to represent them through their moods, in some typical position within the ordinary environment where they feel at ease.
I have taken pictures of them in various places: at home, in the yard, in the street, at the market, at the railway station. Or in the tavern where some meet friends while other go to escape from loneliness and the drink is just an occasion to be among people.
Sometimes it was very hard to persuade them to allow me to take a picture. On the contrary – there were occasions when they approached me with the words: „Come on, take a picture of me“. Sometimes it so happened that I took pictures and only then asked for permission and some refused – then I had to destroy the film. Yet his rarely happened. And after some time when they agreed, I took more photos of them and the outcome was very good.
