Bologna has been ideated to show some unknown aspects of the city, in order to revalue and understand it from a different point of view. The project springs out from the awareness that in Italy, and particularly in the city of Bologna, people are well acquainted with the artistic and architectural beauties of the past, but they often ignore the modern and contemporary works or, being afraid of a comparison with a more and more „golden“ past, they do not dare to highlight them. Starting from this reflection Franco Franceschi has searched in the architectural lines of the twentieth century’s buildings the spirit which influenced the use of several styles. He has always deliberately avoided representing the whole instances of architecture, opting to focus on details in order to find in them a sign, a symbol, which characterizes not only an architect, but also his/her age, and the city’s culture at his/her time. From this research he has produced a number of pictures that have been exhibited in many countries all over the world and a monographic work. It is astonishing to watch the pictures representing Bologna’s typical corners, rib vaults, geometric movements and dynamism. Black and white colours instead of the usual warming red and ochre ones of Bologna’s porticoes and Baroque churches. And you can appreciate the city’s leap towards future and towards the new Europe where it belongs.
