Slow is the new fast

The main expression tool in these photographs is motion. The pictures are consciously blurred by adjusting the shutter speed for a slower exposure. That way the natural vibrations of arms and body are „kept“. I am using the effects of motion blur in order to avoid some of the useless irritating details that surround us. It is also a tool which filters and releases the audience from percept more than needed. The blur effects, the softness of contour and motion gives to the images mystic feeling. As though we can peek in an unknown, invisible world, beyond the banal surface of everyday life.
My name is Mihaela Ivanova. I’m 30 and born in Sofia. I have graduated the New Bulgarian University Bachelors program Visual Arts – Photography module in 2011. I am dedicated to photography 8 years till now. My passion are people and portraits.
I prefer „the slow“, also so called classic black and white photography. My affinity to old times and classic and a good friend advice made me forget my digital camera. I have found the fascination of working with analogue medium format camera and the challenge of the traditional black and white developing. This working method requiresa precision and discipline. Therefore in this whole process of thinking, creating of images, developing and darkroom printing, the artist is participating more and the result is with better value.
