Bed is where they spawn us,
Where we were born and where we die
The island which we leave to start
Most strenuous of our journeys.
There we forge our boldest plans
And sense and taste
wonderful roads
Shrouded in the fog of memories and dreams
We stitch the paths of our lives.

Sonya

Born in Plovdiv on 23 May 1960.
From 1978 until 1981 she studied at the Polytechnic and Photographic school in Sofia.
Since 1982 she has been devoted to her artistic work, paying particular attention to the visual language of photography, approaching it analytically using expressive forms.
From 1983 until the end of the ‘80's, she worked on an artistic research in the field of studio portraiture.
Since 1984 she has taken part in the Biennial of Bulgarian photography and International meetings of photography as well as in many important photographic exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad.

She has received a special invitations for a slide–show at the Lodz and Lille festivals, through the European programme "Photofestival union" Sonya Stankova has been carrying out an extremely personal study of the surrounding environment and the human presence in it, at times basing photographic works expressing very specific positions on the outside world.
Some of these works were purchased by private collections.
Her photographs had been published in the "Colours" of Benetton, "Mary Claire" Italy, "Photo eye" and "PHO" Bulgaria magazines.
