Amazonia – Land of Waters

30.06 – 12.07.2011
An exhibition by Rumen Koynov
Opening: 30.06 at 19:00
Art Center Photosynthesis

Photographer Rumen Koynov was born in Bulgaria in 1964, lives in Sofia, before moving in Plovdiv, where he won fans and friends with original photographs, and has participated in dozens of exhibitions. In 2000 Rumen and his wife went to Brazil, Manaus city.

"For 10 years I do not get tired to photograph Amazon – this touched by god place where time seems to have stopped. Alongshore no civilization exists – only primary element and the man as a part of it. Amazon is a living organism that is not subject to domestication. An immensity which doesn't cease to amaze and inspire me."

About the exhibition "Amazonia – Land of Waters"
The choice of black and white media is connected with the Rumen's desire to avoid the significance of color and to highlight volumes and invoice. Black and white gives a feeling of eternity of his creations, and his sensitivity as an artist recasts the material reality. Just where Rumen breaks with the objective element, his photographs are becoming not just a document but a work of art. For Rumen photography is much more than a mechanical act and usual perception of reality. In a world devoid of humanity and a sense of holiness, it is a way to reveal the mystery and sanctity in their last refuge – the nature.
One is to look at the beauty of giant and exotic Brazilian city of Manaus as a tourist, quite another to leave it as a pilgrim in search of salvation and wharf, to choose to be its inhabitants. In either case, the journey is long and much of it runs on water.

Water is one of the central issues that concern Rumen Koynov. Besides defining characteristic of the region, it is a symbol of life itself. Water is a fundamental element of everything alive, and largely it is true for life's being and vitalizing along the Amazon river.
