Sziget
Hungarian photographer György Konkoly-Thege tells of himself:” I was born in 1957 in Pecs where I finished high school. I graduated from the University of Economic Sciences in Budapest. Later, for some years I worked in the External Economic Directorate of Taurus Tyre. At the age of 24 – 25 I went on business trips to Pakistan, Syria Afghanistan, Turkey and other countries. When I quitted the job, I started selling the photos I had taken during my years abroad to magazines and newspapers. In the course of time my works were published in almost all Hungarian magazines. I organize many exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. I have had exhibits about India, the Galapagos Islands, Indonesia, Laos, Vietnam. I also make theme exhibitions such as “Night”, “Shop-window”, “Meals”. With the support of the Embassy of Denmark I presented Freetown Christiania (the hippie community of Copenhagen). The Embassy of Turkey helped me present Istanbul. I have been shooting the Sziget music festival for over ten years. Not the concerts (of course, sometimes even them) but rather the life style and the participants in it. I have also been shooting other Hungarian festivals, for example, the traditional Kurultaj festival and the smaller but very active Mediawave. In recent years I have been showing abroad mainly the Sziget Festival photos, mostly in the Hungarian Cultural Institutes worldwide. I have already presented the one of the most iconic European festival in Brussels, Bucharest, Moscow, Delhi, Stuttgart, Luxembourg, Vienna.” The exhibition will be open until August 17, 2018.
