The Unknown North

In his project „The Unknown North“, Ivaylo Donchev is immersed in the daily life of the fishermen in the North Sea. From the morning coffee to the midnight storm. Icy waves, rubber boots and bloodstained fish depict the days of the crew, consisting of men of different races and nationalities. For the short time he had accompanied them, the young photographer tried to get to know them, to probe into the problems of their profession, to look at industrial fishing from different points of view. In the open sea with complete strangers, a journey that will bring them together. Ivaylo Donchev was born in Sliven. He studied photography in The Hague, the Netherlands. He believes that the work of an artist reveals their personality. He loves the unknown and new challenges. He is interested in people working in seas and oceans and their way of life. He hasn‘t boarded a ship before this project. He is not afraid because the excitement of a new adventure is stronger than anything.
