To The East. In Eden. In The Timelessness Of The Epoch

In his majestic work “A Journey to the East” author Herman Hesse says: ”Sometimes silence is more eloquent”. I have been trying to tell what it is like to travel in the East and when I lack words, I stop and bring into play Dilyan Markov’s photography because together we experienced this adventure in Cambodia. Cambodia is impossible to narrate without photography. It may be explained bur not revealed. It seems that photography is like music: it starts when we have run out of words. And since the title of the novel has become a cliche, with Dilyan Markov we decided to refute it and blow it to bits. We were to the East not of Eden but in Eden. We were there and we saw the beautiful and the ugly, the wealthy and poor, the history and daily routine of the great khmer people. We worked and lived with them.
