If the Sun is the great mystery of our world, then in photography she is the ever-elusive phantom. We’re used to see her image as a light spot beyond any visual definition, beyond the matter, beyond the qualities of our usual photographic subjects. But there’s a particular photographic process able to show us the life of the Sun – Solargraphy. All we need is an empty beer can, some paint, an old rusty pin and a piece of photographic paper. Few simple ingredients but combined they have the power to reveal the secrets of the most worshiped power of nature throughout history. But the most important ingredient is time. Time is what makes solargraphy so different – the optimal shutter speed for a solargraph is… 6 months! Yes, a solargraph is exposed between 1 and 6 months.
