The History of the European Photography of 20th Century
The cooperation project is a research in the field of European photography. The main project aim is to offer the first complex overview of the 20th century European photography. The first supposition for the aim achievement is the accomplished research on this field of photography in each European country separately. Cooperation partners and participating countries will cooperate on research of European photography between the years of 1939 – 1969 (1900 – 1938 has been accomplished in 2011) and following putting together a major traveling exhibition with images selected by a curator from each participating country. The images selected for the common exhibition will be divided into four groups according to the situation of the given era: humanist photo reportage, portrait, conceptual photograph (as in the period, the conceptual photography began) and subjective photography. There will be 35 countries altogether gathered in the common project – research, exhibition and catalog. The choice of the images for the exhibition is upon each chosen curator, choice for the catalog (larger 10 – 15 images per country) will be upon the author – expert on photography of the given period of time – of the texts. The main idea of the project is to establish a research in the field of photography not only in the countries, which are well known within this field, but also in the countries, where such research has not yet been done or has not been completed. Such research together with the accompanying events as the exhibition and an extensive catalog including chapters ( A study on each country photography history sorted alphabetically); alongside with main studies, the catalog will contain a rich additional material, biographies of mentioned photographers, timetables marking cultural, social-political and technical-photographic events in each country for a given period. Indexes of the catalog will be of two kinds, indexes of mentioned photographers and indexes of other historical names and subjects.
