The national photo contest „The person next to me“ was organized by the Municipality of Kazanlak, Foundation „Chudomir“ and the Branch Photographer`s Association of the town of Kazanlak.
The competition is held in memory of art – photographer Artin Azinyan – one of the long standing and most honored pioneer of photographic art in Kazanlak, who in year 1963 together with Dimitar Chorbadjiiski – Chudomir established Photo – club „Iskra“ in the city. Artin Azinyan has kept in his archives hundreds of photos with famous personalities of the city, moments from various stages of the city life. Order of „St. Cyril and Methodius“ I class was awarder to him as well as many national and international awards from photo contests and festivals.
The name of the contest is closest to the creative nature of Kazanlak artists. Writers and artists such as Chudomir, Ivan Milev, Dechko Uzunov, Nenko Balkanski, composers, such as academic Petko Staynov and Emanuel Manolov, always in his works have turned to the person next to him, looking in his face and voice for the sound of mankind, the need of communication and understanding. The contest is held each year in March during the Festival of Chudomir. In the present year 2012 its V edition was held.
For the period 2008 – 2012 the competition was attended by 980 authors with over 2800 works. For the final selection were admitted 209 works by 177 authors. Diplomas were awarder to all authors whose works took part in the final exhibition. Besides the prizes for first, second and third place, a stimulating prize is also awarded, representing a participation in the National plain air „In the Valley of Roses“, organized in June during the Rose Festival in Kazanlak.
