Simon Lewis is an Australian born photographer based in New York.
A graduate of the School of Visual Arts NY, he freelances for a number of high profile clients as well as exhibiting his fine art work. Simon Lewis held a highly successful and publicized exhibition titled ‘One World’ at Raiko Alexiev Gallery in association with Desislava Moneva in 2009 and subsequently returned in 2011 to photography 12 advertising campaigns for Germanos and Globul. His work has also been exhibited in both New York and Australia, with pieces having being sold around the world. Ms Moneva and Simon Lewis are currently working towards a new exhibition in 2012 at the new Yuzina Gallery in Sofia. In addition to photography Simon Lewis teaches photography, assisting classes at SVA and taking workshops for organizations such as New Orleans Fashion Week. Whilst the subjects within Mr Lewis’ works are varied, there is a common theme that thread through them. It is his innate sense of curiosity about the human condition and global perspective developed through extensive travel that forms the basis of his inspiration. There’s an unspoken dialogue that questions who we are as people, but also raises questions about what inspires us and drives us to become the people we are. Within the context of his work there seems to be more questions than answers, observations than statements. Ultimately it is up to the viewer to disseminate the underlying themes and thus provides a more holistic experience whilst being immersed in a world of beauty and fragility.
