Doyen of the Bulgarian photography. Born on 20.05.1936 in Varna. Since 1959 has been working actively in the area of fineart photography. At various times has been lecturing at “Krastyo Sarafov” National academy for theatre and film arts where he became associated professor, the New Bulgarian University, the Journalism Department, the Art College, the Photo Forum.
His contribution to the photographic scene encompasses over 40 own author exhibitions in Bulgaria and Warsaw, Katowice, Berlin, Vienna, etc. In the period 1975 – 2016 he participated in over 50 collective exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad where he has won numerous awards. In 2008 Petar Abadzhiev became the winner of the golden statuette of the Academy of Photography for lifetime achievement. Petar Abadzhiev is the author of illustrations, design and printing of many companies’ calendars: Brueder Henn Wien, Коnica Bulgaria, Siemens, Balkantourist, Sofia Airport, Air Traffic Control, Balkancar, “Druzhba” plant Varna, etc. In 1993 he illustrated “An Open Door” book of poetry by Keranka Dalakmanska. Member of the editorial board of the “Bulgarian Photo” magazine and co-founder of “Fotooko” (“Photo Eye”), “FO”, and Digital Photo-Video magazines.
Author of the illustrations in various brochures, catalogues and other advertising materials as well as of over 350 publications of images and articles in daily, weekly and monthly Bulgarian press. Petar Abadzhiev has delivered reports at international symposia in Germany, the Czech Republic and other countries.
