Garo Keshishian

Garo Levon Keshishian was born in 1946 from Armenian parents in Varna. He is considered as one of the most important photographers in Eastern Europe. Between 1971-1981 he worked as a mechanical engineer in the steel industry. Since 1976 his work has been seen in solo and group exhibitions in Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Yugoslavia, Turkey, USSR, USA, France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland and Japan. He bases his work on series, choosing his objects by different parts of the society. The exhibition includes some of his most famous series: Gypsies, Soldiers, Steel workers… His photographs represent a rare artistic testimonial, bearing witness, as they do, to the transition of Bulgaria from Soviet influence to western style democracy.
