Sofia Arsenal – Museum of Contemporary Art

The reconstruction of the building, which is located at 2, Cherny Vrah Blvd., Sofia, is implemented under a project financed by the governments of Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein through the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area. The Norwegian government provides 97% of the funds. The total amount granted for the project covers 85% of all expenses and the remaining part is provided by the Ministry of Culture. The first phase of the project „Sofia Arsenal – Museum of Contemporary Art“ includes general reconstruction of the building, and it is implemented by the design of Kadinovi Brothers Architectural Studio, chosen by public tender. The exhibition space of the first floor has been fully renovated.
The second stage of the project provides for the complete renovation of the second and the third floor, the construction of a warehouse according to modern museum requirements, as well as a separate hall for temporary exhibitions. With the cooperation of Sofia Municipality and by the initiative of Mr. Vezhdi Rashidov, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria the green space surrounding the museum will be transformed into an open-air sculpture park, extending over 5000 sq. m.
