Rice fields as a symbol of the East give the name of this charity project in which Japanese Haiku poetry fuses into the photo image. Haiku, kept alive for hundreds of years, comes from a country which presently is going through some of the hardest possible moments of her history. The project addresses all those who feel empathy with the tragedy of the Japanese people and would like to show compassion in the noblest of ways – taking home a small piece of beauty. The two worlds – the world of poetry and the world of photography – at first glance so different, share one and the same feature: they catch and lock evanescent moments. Arranging of Haiku with a drawing known as Haiga goes 400 years back in time. The translation of the word literally means "Haiku Drawing": "hai" for haiku and "Ga" for picture. Traditionally, in Haiga the Haiku author adds a picture to the text. Today with the advent of high technologies, even more often artists replace drawings with photos. That is why "Rice Fields" project is unique – it goes beyond tradition and steps into experimental zone.

Three photographers from Varna – Dimitrina Vasileva, Plamen Mihaylov and Svetoslav Ivanov – face the challenge to incorporate photo images with Haiku. With their individual style and world perception, they propose three different visions of Vladislav Hristov's Haiku works resulting in a synergy which will be incomplete without the spectator's contribution. The 37 works, as 37 is the number of exposures in a film roll, send a message for sympathy with the suffering of the Japanese people.
