The Goethe-Institute, as the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, brings the multifaceted image of Germany to the world.

We promote and convey the German language abroad and enhance the development of international cultural cooperation. We build bridges that cross cultural, social and political borders and represent the various aspects of Germany.
With our network of Goethe-Institutes, Goethe-centers, cultural societies, reading halls, language and test centers, we carry out the main tasks of our foreign cultural and educational policy. We are partners with public and private cultural institutions, Federal provinces, local municipalities and economic organizations.
We draw on the diversities of our open society and the living German culture. We bring together the experience and ideas of our foreign partners with our professional competence and work in partnering dialog thus supporting all who actively work with Germany or in the area of German language and culture in a responsible, politically unbiased manner.
We accept globalization's politic-cultural challenges and elaborate innovative concepts toward a more humanistic world on the grounds of mutual understanding that vies cultural diversity as coon wealth.

In Bulgaria, Goethe-Institute was established in 1989. Since 2004, the Institute is situated in the Ministry of Culture building in the city centre. Our mission is to:
• encourage multilingualism as a basis of the common European perspectives;
• exchange aesthetical positions and innovative developments in arts and science;
• promote the democratic structure of the civil society;
• support information structures build-up and development;
• foster awareness of European citizenship and intra-European dialog.

Accents of our program are meetings between Bulgarian and German artists and intellectuals, presentation of modern German cultural phenomena and foster for German-Bulgarian and European cooperation by intercultural dialog.
We promote German language in Bulgaria offering workshops and various services for Bulgarian German Language teachers and support national and European language learning projects in close cooperation with Bulgarian Partners.
Goethe-Institute Sofia provides a host of language courses. Our lecturers obtain high-level professional qualification meeting modern standards. Goethe-Institute tests and exams are recognized worldwide.
The library of Goethe-Institute Bulgaria offers information on topical aspects of German cultural, social and political life. It provides wide access to books and media and information services for all who take interest in Germany or would like to study or teach German language. Through joint events with Bulgarian libraries and other cultural institutions, it promotes the enhancement of professional exchange of experience and dialog.
